A survey of legal representatives of people with intellectual disabilities on the implementation of Article 19 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Friends! We have already reported that the All-Ukrainian Public Organisation ‘Coalition’ is carrying out a national monitoring exercise on compliance with the right of adults with intellectual disabilities to be included in local communities and to prevent their segregation, in accordance with Article 19 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Today, we are announcing the launch of a survey of legal representatives of people with intellectual disabilities regarding the safeguarding of their right to inclusion in local communities.

We call on the legal representatives of adults with disabilities resulting from intellectual disabilities to take part in the survey!

The questions for survey participants cover the following topics: to what extent can people with intellectual disabilities influence their choice of place of residence and their inclusion in the community, whether the conditions are in place for all people with intellectual disabilities to exercise this right, and what the prospects are for establishing a system in Ukraine whereby adults with intellectual disabilities can participate in decision-making regarding independent living and inclusion in the local community.

Taking part in the survey is another step towards ensuring a secure future for your adult son or daughter with an intellectual disability. Every mother and every father asks themselves: where, with whom and how will their adult child with a disability live in the future?

For 16 years now, we have been campaigning for the introduction of supported living services for adults with intellectual disabilities.

To ensure our voice is heard more clearly and to urge the authorities to fulfil their obligations, it is vital that legal representatives of people with intellectual disabilities from across Ukraine actively take part in the survey.
